Using hair suspension as a medium for physical exploration The Perpetuation Series expands the space and time in which almost impossible images can be held.

A body remaining suspended above broken glass.

A body attempting to vanishing in slow motion in a cloud of smoke.

A body endlessly falling.

This performance is part of Tom Cassani’s ongoing solo practice that collides Live Art and performance magic. This work is a continuation of Tom’s research into durational acts of illusion and maps a new territory of time-based magic.

Tom Cassani is a performance maker based in the UK. Tom’s ongoing artistic exploration draws on an expanded approach to magic and uses strategies of Live Art, techniques of sideshow and illusion to explore the body as a site of deception. Tom’s performance work often uses illusory texts or imagery, physical skills and training to expose the body as an unreliable measure of truth. Tom was recently selected by Florentina Holzinger as mentee to develop his Expanded Magic research project for the Berlin based Forecast Platform. Tom also works internationally as a consultant and dramaturg specialising in inter-disciplinary deceptive practices.

A photo of Tom breathing out a thick plume of smoke, with their hair pulled to the right of the image, the tension is visible in the performer's pose.
