Bio

Nene (they/them) is an artist and producer, they have created and produced performances with/for schools, theatres, festivals, cabarets, club kids, friends, and for their own enjoyment. Nene as a teenager began dabbling in producing while participating in Battersea Arts Centre’s Young Producer’s scheme, from there they launched themselves into a performance-making degree in Glasgow, finding inspiration from a new community of peers and collaborators.

For the past three years, Nene has worked on various projects and programmes at Artsadmin, supporting artists through touring both nationally and internationally, fundraising for new work, and developing international collaborations. They prioritise inclusion, anti-racism, and accessibility at every stage of the process. Currently, Nene serves as the Interim Artist Support Programme Producer which they will continue until spring 2025, where they support and encourage artists’ ambitions through the building of advocacy, resources and care.

Nene is intensely interested in platforming and making visible the creative practices of communities that are often under-resourced yet still offering unique perspectives, continuing to find exciting and intricate ways of art-making.

Nene says:

“I am very excited and grateful to be returning to Glasgow, a place that is home to performance and live art in all its rarest forms. Now, more than ever, it is imperative that spaces like BUZZCUT continue to serve and build a community of performance artists, workers and audiences with radical care, intention and authentic inclusion. Becoming BUZZCUT's Organisational Director, I hope to continue celebrating and platforming performances that are as nuanced, risky and complicated as our own selves.”

Outgoing director Karl Taylor says:

“I couldn’t be happier that Nene has agreed to take on the Directorship of BUZZCUT. In no time at all, they have forged an impressive & inspirational career path and they are uncompromising in their commitment to considered, approaches to Live Art. BUZZCUT has always been led by fire & passion and Nene is burning bright! 🔥 I feel very honoured to be passing the torch & I am so excited to see what visions they bring to life.”
